1. Tax Credits

Tax Credits is a payment from the government. If you are responsible for and live with a child or an adolescent, you may qualify for Child Tax Credits. If you work but earn little you may qualify for Working Tax Credits. Payments depend on your income: the lower your income, the higher your tax credits.

The amount you may receive will depend on the following:
How many children live with youIf you work and how many hours you work (16hrs p/week min. if you have children; 30 hrs min if you don’t have children.)If you pay for childcareIf one of your children is disabledIf you are older than 50 and have stopped receiving benefits
 
 
2. Jobseeker's Allowance
 
If you are unemployed or you work on average less than 16 hours per week, you may apply for Jobseeker's Allowance. You need to:
 Be able to workBe available to workBe actively searching for a jobNot be of retirement age
 
 
3. Housing and Council Tax Benefits
 
If your income is low, Housing Benefit helps you pay the rent, and Council Tax Benefit helps pay your Council Tax. If you share your house with another adult who is not your husband or partner, and this person cannot contribute with the payment of Council Tax, you may claim Adult Rebate as well.

You will not be able to claim Housing or Council Tax Benefit if:
 You have savings of more than £16.000, unless you are 60 years old or more or be receiving the Guarantee Credit of the Pension Credit.Live in the house of a family memberAre a full time student
