Policy and Communications Coordinator – VAWG

The Latin American Women’s Rights Service (LAWRS) is a human rights, feminist organisation led by and for Latin American migrant women in the UK. Our work is dedicated to support the immediate and long-term needs of Latin American migrant women exposed to violations of their fundamental human rights; facing violence against women and girls, exploitation or trafficking; enduring difficult living and working conditions in low paid jobs, and facing barriers to social protection.

The Policy and Communications Coordinator – VAWG will be responsible for continuing developing and implementing LAWRS’ policy, advocacy and communications strategy in the area of violence against women and girls (VAWG). The post holder will have the exciting role of leading our successful Step Up Migrant Women campaign and coalition, which focuses on influencing the Domestic Violence and Abuse Bill, as well as local responses to migrant women facing VAWG.

Girls and Young Women Counsellor/Psychotherapist (Spanish Speaker)

7 hours (1 day per week)

Annual Salary (FTE): £28,600 (pro-rata)

We are seeking for a creative and commited Counsellor/Psychotherapist Latin American woman to join LAWRS’ Counselling and Psychotherapy team which offers a women-centred, culturally specific service in Spanish and Portuguese for Latin American women victims and survivors of violence against women and girls (VAWG) and work closely with No Limits/Sin Fronteras Project Coordinator to provide tailored wellbeing support to participants.

. LAWRS’ No Limits Project (Sin Fronteras) is a creative art-based project for Latin American girls and young women (LAGYW) aged 14 to 21. The project provides a safe space for LAGYW who are facing severe disadvantage due to intersectional inequalities. This holistic programme provides participants with support to address needs and overcome barriers. It also offers opportunities for developing existing and new skills, as well as exercising critical thinking on issues that matter to them through the use of arts and campaigning work. The ultimate aim of this project is to enable participants to empower themselves and each other to seek the change they want to see in their lives, communities and wider society.

The main duties of this post include:

  1. To provide high-quality specialist counselling and psychotherapy services, adhering to the BACP Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy to LAYWG.

  2. To design and co-facilitate psychoeducational group wellbeing sessions aimed at engaging LAYWG in age appropriate, participatory, creative and interactive sessions addressing  traumatic lived experiences.

The post holder will be BACP accredited or equivalent or BACP registered and working towards an accreditation and be available to work on Saturdays.
