Frances Carlisle – Director
Frances joined LAWRS in 2003. She began as Volunteering and Development Coordinator, supporting women into employment through work experience and skills development; and became Director in November 2007. Frances has a background in gender & community development, gained through working on women’s and human rights in Mexico, Bolivia and London; and has an MSc in Gender and Development from the LSE. She has published on LAWRS’ work in Oxfam’s Gender and Development journal.

Carolina Velasquez - Outreach & Development Coordinator
Carolina joined LAWRS in January 2011. She has a background in social work and holds a specialisation in immigration and interculturalism from Universidad de Castilla, Spain. She worked in Colombia with displaced people for 5 years and has been interested in Latin American migration since arriving in London. She has been involved in research on Latin Americans in London with Queen Mary University and Nottingham University, experiences that have developed her knowledge on the community and increased her passion for working with the community.
Virginia Cifuentes - Senior Advice Worker
Virginia has been working for LAWRS since 1998. She first joined the organisation working on a part time basis in the area of housing, and moved on to a full time post in 1999. She is now the senior housing, money and debt advisor for the organisation.
Virginia is originally from Colombia, where she qualified and worked as a lawyer before moving to London.
Marcela Benedetti - Integration & Capacity Building Worker
Marcela joined LAWRS in 2008. She began as a volunteer in the Domestic Violence Prevention Project, and became Generalist Advisor & User Development Co-ordinator in November of 2009. She was born in Argentina and lived in Bolivia for 10 years, where she graduated as a lawyer. She also holds an MA in Latin American Studies from the University of London.
Belen Dominguez- Integration & Capacity Building Worker
Belen holds a degree in HR Management and a CPP qualification, on HR-related legislation in the UK. She has specialised in staff management and employment issues and worked on projects to improve Latin American women's skills and ability to move up the career ladder in the United Kingdom.
Danniela Uribe - Older People's Rights Worker
Danniela has spent several years working with the Latin American community, on programmes focusing on violence against women, and refugees and foreign offenders in Praxis. Her expertise lie in grassroots community development, having worked with rural women's groups and sustainability in Mexico. She has a Masters in Rural Development and Diploma in Social Anthropology.
Marian Pernia - Psychotherapy and Counselling Coordinator
Marian is a qualified Psychologist from the Universidad Central de Venezuela, with a Masters in Clinical Psychology and specialized in Gestalt therapy. She has been running the Psychotherapy service since November 2003. Over recent years she has developed a feminist and gendered approach to her work, using therapeutic processes of empowerment for women migrants.
LAWRS’ mission is to provide tools for growth to empower Latin American women in the UK to pursue personal and social change.
We focus on meeting the needs, both immediate and long term, of women affected by poverty and abuse.
We offer advice, advocacy, information and counselling services in a personalised, confidential and impartial manner. All our services are free and in Spanish and Portuguese.
